Once captured by algorithms, human brains seem to be permanently disfigured and unable to pull free. I think we’re hurtling toward a worldwide catastrophe. Thanks, Sally — seriously. Your comment hit like a brain defibrillator. When I started posting here, it was a deliberate decision to stop staying silent — I’ve spent most of my life writing privately, mostly for my own sanity… and occasionally for the dog.
I usually do my homework before diving into a platform, but this connection somehow slipped past my filters. Reading about it made me feel physically ill — and that’s exactly why I couldn’t roll over and stay quiet. I hit publish because not saying something felt worse.

Well Andreessen was in the shadows for a long time and when you did occasionally bump into him it was reflexive to flee and dis-remember the encounter. I’m sure you read Ben Smith’s recent reporting on Conehead’s obsessive chat group raves… lots of insight there.
Tech bores me to tears even tho I of course use it all day long and appreciate the tools. But it’s only interesting when connected to, or illuminates human behavior. The current cabal is like re-living high school, except the weapons are not just psychologically devastating for a few months but murderous.
I was directed by my financial planner to listen to a podcast called Honestly by Bari Weiss after the election. He told me it would help me feel better about the election results, but I have to tell you, it scared the bejeezus out of me. It was the interview with Marc Andreessen 12/10/2024. I haven’t spoken to my FP about it yet because I’m just too angry. I don’t want to yell at him, and I don’t want to be gaslighted either.
It’s been a few months since I listened to it, so I’m not sure if I remember everything, but the one thing I remember is him saying that for too long “we” have been told we’re racist and we’re tired of it. He said he had gone down to meet with trump at Mar-a-Lago and was advising him “for free.” Here is a video I just saw on TikTok:

I was listening to the podcast while I was driving and I wanted to pull over and scream at some of the things he was saying. I wasn’t planning to listen to any more of Bari Weiss’s podcasts after I realized that I had been led to the right which is not where I thought my FP would lead me to. He’s from Canada and I haven’t spoken to him since, though I need to. I’m very curious if he still thinks that trump was the right choice under the circumstances. I’m sure he’ll try to stay neutral but I can imagine what he might be thinking now, at least I hope he’s changed his mind.
I agree, interesting but also very concerning. And here I thought Substack was the place to be. Just when you think you found a niche that is not financially connected to this regime, you are slapped in the face and feel stupid.
